| Genre:Chick lit, Romance, Fun, Contemporary, Fiction Main characters:Samantha Sweeting, Nathaniel Summary: 29-years old Samantha Sweeting hasn’t had any free time since the time she was 12 and dreaming of being a lawyer. Now, years later, working for a very important law firm and about to be made partner (the youngest partner ever in that firm) her life is almost perfect (except for a minor detail, namely that she doesn’t have any free time). Just when she was about to enjoy her new promotion she discovers she made a mistake, losing one of their clients 50 million pounds. Very distressed she just runs away and… ends up accepting a housekeeper position in a village nearby. Even though she cannot cook. Or clean. Or iron. Or anything at all. However she manages to learn it all and do the job brilliantly with the help of the gardener, Nathaniel (no last name given), also getting to enjoy life at a slower pace. Needless to say the two fall in love and everything is perfect until something happens offering her an opportunity of going back to her former life. A difficult choice but in the end she manages to make the right decision. |
Samantha is actually a very likable character, smart, witty but not knowing the most basic things about house keeping (at the very beginning we find her wondering how to turn on the oven). However she’s very willing to learn so, in time, she gets actually good at her job. Nathaniel is also likable and believable as the lawyer-hating pub owner with a passion for gardening. A perfect combination :P
All in all, a very easy and fun read. Of course the course of the events is a bit improbable but one shouldn’t let that keep him or her from enjoying the book.
