| Genre: Romance Main characters: Dawn “Misty” Donovan, Zebadiah John “Zeb” Turner Summary: Misty is a private investigator, associate of her uncle and only relative, Kenny. One evening she meets a less than ordinary case: a guy asks her to kidnap him. She’s intrigued so before accepting she does some research of the people involved. It is thus that Zeb Turner enters Misty’s life. Upon meeting him she realizes that the guy in her office was his twin brother, wanting to make her kidnap Zeb to make him miss an important business meeting. |
Misty is a person who has had to learn to be on her own since her parents disappeared from her life when she was little. She has built an independent life for herself, happily shared with her dog Max. Zeb is sort of her opposite in a way: he has a large family, all more or less depending on him, financially or otherwise. He is used to taking other people’s problems into his hands and solve them — making him sort of a dream guy, as who wouldn’t like their problems taken away and solved every now and then? :P
I enjoyed the fact that this book had no actual conflict between the two main characters to speak of. Sure, Misty’s independent and Zeb is at times controlling in his eagerness to solve problems, Misty is cautious and Zeb is sort of rushing the relationship — but overall the two never actually argue (well they do once but Zeb quickly comes to his senses and returns shortly after slamming the door), a very relaxing thing after all the books where hero quarrels with the heroine and the two stop talking to one another, usually for very silly reasons.
What I liked most: Max the dog and the way Zeb treated him/talked of him; speaking of Zeb, he was pretty ooooh-and-aaaaaah-ily perfect too :)
What I liked least: One could see that this book was aimed only at women: the guy was written to be every woman’s dream and fantasy; the gal was written to just be there and worry about things, not doing anything actually interesting or captivating, nothing to make her different or better than any other women in the hero’s eyes (if we exclude physical attraction, of course :) ). One (I) would have liked her to be a very interesting and captivating character in her own right, not just a prop to the hero (a hero who considers her magical no less).
Recommend it? If you’re into romance books, of course :)
